You do not need to move your domain registration to host with us. There are two ways to connect a domain you own: change the nameservers, or change individual DNS records.
Option 1: change nameservers (recommended)
This hands DNS management to HostLift, so future changes such as adding email records happen automatically.
- Open your dashboard and copy the two nameservers shown on your service detail page.
- Log in to your current registrar and find the nameserver or DNS settings for the domain.
- Replace the existing nameservers with the HostLift pair and save.
- Wait for propagation. Most resolvers update within an hour, though the published maximum is 24 hours.
Option 2: change A and CNAME records
Use this if you need to keep DNS with your current provider, for example because another service manages your mail.
- A record for @ pointing to the IPv4 address on your service page.
- AAAA record for @ pointing to the IPv6 address, if one is listed.
- CNAME record for www pointing to your root domain.
Checking it worked
Run a DNS lookup for your domain and confirm it returns the address on your service page. Your SSL certificate is issued automatically once the domain resolves to us, usually within fifteen minutes.
